Designed by working arborist Phillip Pedry, the KBNest unit is made in the USA by CMI. It is sold complete with a tether built by our Arbsession splicing team.
With the KBNest, isolation of your TIP on your initial throw into the tree crown is not necessary. When you arrive at your TIP after ascending your basal tied system you can establish a canopy anchor in seconds without dismantling your belay device. If you haven’t reached your desired high point in the crown, advancing your system is done quickly.
Anchor up to three independent climbing lines If one line isn’t enough for the job establish two- if two isn’t enough establish three-lines. SRS or DRT.
Any level of climber can master basic configurations of the Nest anchor in minutes. Whether your retrieving 1, 2 or 3 systems, no hardware is required to pass through the TIP on retrieval, and no hardware is required to pull through a spliced eye or stitched eye on the anchor itself. With the second work line climbers can retrieve the whole system with control,” soft catching” the anchor and ropes .

Why was the Nest created?
The Need
To stay alive. To not damage property or injure lives and to get the job done efficiently. Time saved in the tree equals greater margins of profit, more energy for the next climb and more time to spend on other important things in life.
The Problem
Work positioning. All of the canopy anchors today are based on the same logic, a logic that works well for MRS systems. And the SRS anchor systems developed by hard working climbers have one or more significant drawbacks for the modern climber who wants to maximize work positioning in the least amount of time while using SRS. Some specific problems are; Exposed life support line and often limited redirect potentials when working off of a basal tied system. An unacceptable amount of time setting up a canopy anchor. Isolating your line for retrieval purposes. Massive time waste trying to advance your SRS canopy anchor to a more desirable TIP. Severely limited redirects when using your access line as a component of your canopy anchor (i.e. choking your tie in point with your climbing line). Risk of getting the anchor stuck somewhere in the process of retrieving it and your ropes. All of these problems put a strain on the climber when trying to maximize work positioning and minimize setup and egress times.
The Solution
An anchor that doesn’t require the climber to change their techniques or learn new hard skills, one that can mid-line attach onto your access line right at your high point, turning your basal anchored access line into a canopy anchored work positioning line in 30 seconds or less, substantially increasing safety and efficiency by making a work positioning line without limited redirect potentials out of your access line that you worked hard to get into the tree. If you need to advance your anchor because you realized a better high point above you, but you’ve already setup a knot blocked SRS canopy anchor, no problem, it only takes a few seconds to unclip one side of your anchor and advance it, then re-attach. Once you're happy with your high tie in point, you can get to work going through all the redirects your job requires for optimal work positioning.
Let’s say you are working a sprawling tree, a branchy conifer or multiple trees in close proximity, and you wish you had more work positioning options with another rope, you can add one into the anchor and in a minute, you have another completely independent line in the same anchor in which you can strategically throw into a distant redirect on that sprawling tree, the other side of the branchy conifer or a totally different tree. No need to go up and down through redirects or establish a second anchor in a distant high point. And when you're finished with the job, you can retrieve your systems without excessive friction, despite the ten or more redirects you took. What's more, because you added a second line for access, it also doubles as a soft catch for your anchor system and at no extra cost of setup time. If two ropes aren't enough for work positioning, then add three and soft catch that too. This is the KBNest anchor! Its only limits to work positioning are the user’s own creativity

Why does it look so complicated?
The Nest is not immediately intuitive even for advanced climbers. However, after using it once the common feedback we get is '“it looked complicated, but when I had it in my hands and tried it once, I realized that it’s simple to set up.”
I think that the perceived complication is due to the fact that the Nest uses new logic to approach turning your basal anchored access line into a canopy anchored work line.
I’m confident that after seeing a video or perhaps seeing a live demonstration or using it yourself, you will see or experience that it is not as complicated as it might look.
In practice, it’s simple.
Why is it so bulky?
The complete anchor weighs just 1lb. 7oz. We made the face of the alloy trap plate- (Alloy Unit), wide or bulky to prevent it from pulling through the tether “hoop” when in use. The alloy face dimensions also make it possible to use the anchor for simultaneous SRS and MRS without the MRS contacting the SRS system when its weighted and moving.
What makes the KBNest different than other SRS canopy anchors?
There is no other canopy anchor made for SRS climbing that can midline attach onto your access line and turn it into a knot blocked canopy anchor in 30 seconds. In addition, the Nest can accommodate multiple rope systems and retrieve with control by utilizing your secondary line. SRS and MRS compatible. The Nest was made for two person loads. with all components having an MBS of 36kn. There is no hardware required to pull through the TIP and no part of the anchor needs to pull through a stiffened rope eye.
No other anchor can boast all of these attributes in one simple user-friendly anchor.
