Arbsession superSMOOTH
The Arbsession Super Smooth is a unique version of climbing friction savers. Using the DMM 40mm ring and Arbsession thimble and because of this the superSMOOTH shouldn't need a retrieval ball.
Details
With the use of a 40mm DMM ring, almost all climbing lines pass through with a simple overhand knot which will then reliably jam against the much smaller #1 Arbsession Rigging Thimble. Combined with an amazing bend radius, this gives an unbelievable climbing experience.

Young Dog, Old Tricks
This item lives in my box of misfit toys for things I thought were cool, but no longer use. In theory the super smooth offered a compact retrievable ring & ring for rope advancing to my anchor while pruning brushy maples. It also spaced my termination knot further from my hitch. While ground testing in a large, open union, it works beautifully & retrieves with an overhand knot. In practice, amid the tall, desirable union anchor points in our maples are usually very tight, and I’ve lost all patience for stuck ropes in any situation. All my ropes have tapered & glued ends. The super smooth concept might work better an adjustable version, captive thimble loop, or possibly just 6-12 inches longer, to allow for larger unions which may retrieve better. When I want/need some MRS utility I’ll set up my figure 8 descender as a mechanical advantage-then retrieve it.
Multiple Applications in day to day climbs
I've been using this as my primary friction saver, as a double rope mid line spike to my SRT line and also as an addition to my M/V rig for reduction in friction. It's retrievable using a small accessory carabiner. I really like how versatile and compact this is with a larger bend radius using a rigging ring compared to traditional ring to ring savers.
Customize
Got one of these with an Edelrid bulletproof triple as the large side hardware and size 2 thimble for the small side. This made installation from the ground faster and easier. A super tight overhand knot in 11.7 rope can pull through the size 2 thimble but I use a splice with an XSRE for retrieval anyways.
Small, simple, cheap, works!
Been trying to get this friction saver stuck for a few months now. Works flawless with my current setup: Petzl flow, Spiderjack 3, and a quick link for retrieval.
