I live in the northeast and the pole gaffs (Buckingham Steel Gaff Tree Climbers - 1-3/4" Replaceable) are perfect for most trees around here. They are sturdy, adjustable and durable. The steel is heavier but when most trees are about 60 feet in your area as opposed to 160 feet, it doesn't seem to matter much.
