DMM Captain Hook Kit with Rope and Bag
Available in 2 Colors
The DMM Captain Hook is an innovative tool catering to modern work at height techniques. Carefully designed to aid stability and positioning during technical jobs. The Captain is a self-locating, high strength hook that has been designed and tested with the trademark attention to detail that is synonymous with DMM.
The pivoting D shackle helps destabilise the hook if presented in the wrong orientation and interacts beautifully with the carefully sculpted hook form to ensure reliable location on the anchor, specifically for connecting to remote anchors and facilitate controlled sideways movement – traversing.
Once in place, the quality engineering ensures a rated strength of 23kN (dependent on the anchor). When the job is done, the Captain racks superbly on a harness, minimising the chances of snagging. Perfect for working between or within complex structures.
- Kit includes 15m (~49 feet) of 10mm Teufelberger Sirius with (1) sewn eye and DMM 4 Liter Tool Bag

Great hook
The DMM Captain Hook is easy to throw and really strong, and it always sticks its landing.
Surprisingly effective!
Is it situational? Absolutely. But once or twice a month, the DMM Captain Hook saves me. Best scenarios have been getting across large deciduous trees or transferring into near by trees.
Very well mad and high quality.
This can be used to make many situations easier. The DMM Captain hook is a tool like any other and has its uses. Maybe not used every day, but when needed it will make life easier!
Amazing when you need it.
This is a great tool. I opted for the DMM Captain hook only rather than the complete kit and then paired it with Teufelberger 10mm Ocean and a rope grab for progress capture. The Captain is very well made and self-orients very well when it lands. It is a bit cumbersome but the hook faces down when hanging from the carabineer/tethering hole on the midpoint of the hook. BTW, first use was not for traversing, I threw it over some long scaffolds on a Leland Cypress, effectively using the Captain hook to set a tagline so I didn't have to climb out on those floppy things!
Awesome when you need it!
The dmm captians hook is an amazing piece of equipment that is completely essential for moving about the canopy with ease. As a climber who does mostly spike-less prunes i love this thing! Its easy to get lost in trying for the perfect crotch just like a throw ball but as use as a spare positioning system its amazing! I do highly suggest a separate tie in for the rope the captians hook is on the capture your progress. I do find it difficult to remove from the crotch if its used to regress back to the main tie in but using it to get out to the work is easy and effective. I would definitely suggest this item to any climber who is having difficulty or just wants to limb walk with more ease and confidence. Hands down 10/10.
Great Tool...if you need it.
The Captain is one of those tools that'll either make your day or eat up all your time. It self-orients beautifully, and is large enough to grab any branch you have any business trying to pull yourself to. If you do the right kind of work, it's a powerful positioning tool that gives you lots of options that used to be impossible and helps you make difficult moves in the canopy when your rope angle is sketchy, in addition to the main function of traversing. BUT, a tool never used is a waste of money, and if you're wasting time playing with it and it isn't speeding things up, it's not worthwhile. I love my DMM Captain Hook and use it constantly, but you need to have a line and an adjuster/progress capture device that will work FOR you, not against you.
