Marlow Typhoon 12.2mm Climbing Rope
Marlow 12.2mm Typhoon is stirring up a storm and continues the trend of next generation development and innovation for modern arborists, with its 16-plait polyester cover and multiple polyester twisted core, making it the perfect partner for most modern hardware.
Typhoon is perfectly suited for tree climbers wishing to move from the more traditional larger diameter climbing lines, but still wishing to retain the benefits of very low stretch and a diameter that easier to handle. With the addition of a low profile spliced eye as standard this makes Typhoon a worthy addition to the range.

got 20 ft with a sewn eye to try as a lanyard, breaking in nicely. great hand, more robust than my usual safety blue or kalimba, but using the eye I have no knots in it. coral snake colorway stands apart.
The Good, The Good, and The Ugly
Ropes are getting more strands for smoother, and less bouncy toothed ascents. For me, shaving a few seconds off the Initial 20-60ft rope access ascent is my least concerning variable I need to address when I’m eager to end my work day and/or produce. I discovered Typhoon while seeking a durable toothless SRT & natural MRS friendly rope to work from. I’m told that classic 16-strand ropes are the most durable, but also bulky and bouncy. A few thin 16-strand ropes available, but the stretch spec on the Typhoon stands out as very useful for SRT work. My fellow climbers were skeptical any 16-strand could be static enough to enjoy SRT climbing, but I couldn’t shake the idea. After testing a 20’ hank, I ordered a 234’ hank of Typhoon, and can vouch that it is the least bouncy and most visible climbing rope I’ve experienced in 2 years of production. (Tachyon, Control, Hyperclimb, Blaze) Classic 16-strand ropes have a nylon core, but Typhoon’s core is polyester. Typhoon is not bouncy from an 80ft SRT canopy anchor. I taper and glue my ends-so can’t comment on splicing. Typhoon runs & holds with a 10mm hitch, zigzag, chicane. Thank you Marlow and Arbsession, I look forward to my Typhoon breaking in and performing for years.
