Osborne Rope Splicing Needle
C.S. Osborne 509 Sailmaker's needles are used for whipping and lock stitching spliced rope. 13, 14 and 16 gauge needles are most common and used for smaller diameter cordage and the 9 gauge is a larger needle for big cordage.

Good for whipping.
I use these Osborne sailmaker's needles for whipping climbing line and some tenex slings. I am surprised sometimes I put a lot of pressure on them to get them through the lines and they don't bend. When I first was getting into splicing I didn't want to overbuy them. I got a larger one and a medium one, thinking if I like splicing and I see that I need more I will buy them. I have made many projects and still am working with the original needles. If and when they bend I will be sure to order more!
