Petzl Zigzag Plus Mechanical Prusik
The Petzl Zigzag plus mechanical Prusik allows the user to move around efficiently in a tree using classic Prusik pulley system technique. The friction chain provides precision and fluidity when moving around. The pulley is mounted on sealed ball bearings to allow the slack to be taken up easily. Can be used on either doubled ropes or a single rope, providing great versatility. The lower attachment hole with high-efficiency swivel ensures stable and correct positioning of the mechanical Prusik and optimal rope glide through the device.

Intuitive grip:

Amazing
I still remember trying to climb up with a blakes hitch and then moving on to this Blakes is still useful to know, but this Zigzag was a huge upgrade! It runs smoothly and makes moving around a breeze. I'd also consider looking into the chicane if you're interested in a Zigzag.
Love the zigzag
Have been climbing on a zigzag for a few years now and just got another one. Love the smoothness as well as the ability to utilize SRT or DRT. Don't see myself switching to any other device in the near future.
The best device I’ve ever used!!
I’ve had my Petzl zigzag for about 4 years now. It’s been a blessing and a game changer for me. I highly, highly recommend it to climbers of all levels. Only downside is it’s not midline attachable.
Game changer
This is a fantastic piece of gear. It's simple and smooth. I just use it for MRS, it is great when switching between ropes for different sized trees. I recommend the Petzl Zigzag for everybody.
works great
after climbing on the Petzl Zigzag Plus for almost 3 years I decided I better write a review. Overall I really love it and am planning on getting another on when the time comes. It is extremely fast and for new climbers probably not the best thing to start on. that being said, when you have experience and know exactly how you want to move about the tree this makes it extremely fast and easy to do. the only thing I don't like about mine is over time I have noticed that it started to slip. I climb on an 11.7mm Blue moon and I don't want to go to a thicker rope.
Great mechanical
The Petzl Zigzag Plus Mechanical Prusik is the best device for a newer climber. Not much to get confused by, intuitive, and smooth in DRT or SRT with a chichane. Pair it with a rope like blue moon from Yale and it’ll be smooth as butter.
Beginner friendly
If someone is a newer climber you can slap this Petzl Zigzag Plus Mechanical Prusik on a rope and send them on their way. Simple to understand and use while being smooth and secure. I’ve rarely doubted the ability of the zag to catch me unless it was just extremely worn. I recommend trying to start with a small diameter rope like 11.5 mm or 11.7 then working your way up in size as the device gets more worn
MRS goodness!
This is the go to device if your looking for a mechanical for MRS. The Petzl Zigzag is super smooth, you never have to adjust it and it has a swivel. What else can you ask for?! Also it is amazing for any sticky, sappy trees!
Great device
When I'm climbing drt the Petzl Zigzag is my go to device. Its so smooth and nice. Pair it with the Petzl Flow rope and its super smooth. I would recommend for a new climber and the experienced climber as well.
Good
Im not a huge fan of the Petzl zig zag.. compared to other options.. BUT it does have its place as a solid and easy to use device. Especially if you are switching from hitch cords. Biggest bummers with the zig zag is non midline attachability and non easily replaceable parts.
Smooth as glass
If you want smooth this is where you get it. Ascending and descending limb walking this thing has proven itself through the test of time. The Petzl Zigzag paired with the zillion and you’re ready for anything.
Nothing beats the zig zag
It is so smooth on descent and accents. Truly well engineered and designed or climbing. When I was a beginner I started with the Petzl Zigzag Plus and it definitely spoiled me. I expected the same smoothness from other devices that they could not match.
Smooth
I really enjoy the Petzl zig zag I have it on a designated rope so it lives on that rope. Ddrt is no longer a struggle to capture your progress. It is also my "go to" for crane work.
Love it
I upgraded to this from a prussik hitch and couldn’t be happier. The Petzl Zigzag Plus tends effortlessly, and doesn’t bat an eye to wet rope. Works great on Yale Blue Moon. The swivel is nice on DRT, but probably not necessary for SRT. All the concern around the ZZ has been due to abuse and neglect. Daily inspect and avoid side load and you’ll be flying safely.
Great device
I started climbing on this Petzl Zigzag Plus about a year ago with the Petzl Chicane. Smooth as butter. The only real downside is that you can't midline attach, but it is so nice it's worth it.
Freakin SMOOOOOTH!
Still use my hitch climber set up, but when it comes DRT this thing is amazing! I either use a friction saver or a floating crotch set up mostly with the Petzl Zigzag Plus and it’s crazy how smooth it runs. I still use it with my Petzl Chicane for SRT too and it’s equally as impressive.
Ddrt or srt
Great for ddrt. Even better for srt when used with a tether and friction support. Down fall of the Petzl Zigzag Plus is that it is not midline attachable.
The Only Good Reason to Still Climb DdRT
The Zigzag is a phenomenal device. There's nothing on the market that tends this smooth, descends this smooth, and stops on a dime with this much control. The Petzl Zigzag Plus is NOT midline attachable, but most users have gotten into an easy routine which involves the device living on a rope with a single splice. Pulling the rope into a tree with the device attached is really not a big deal, and it's worth the effort if you've going to be climbing on Doubled Rope.
Great device
I've used both the 2014 and 2019, great devices, although not midline attachable it's not too much of a hassle to work around. The Petzl Zigzag Plus is incredibly smooth and makes limbwalking pretty easy.
