Petzl OK Ball Lock Carabiner
The OK oval aluminum carabiner from Petzl is optimal for the positioning of equipment. The lightweight Petzl OK carabiner is made of aluminum. It has an oval shape that allows optimal loading of devices with a wide cross-section, such as pulleys and ascenders. Its fluid interior design and Keylock system facilitate handling. The Petzl OK carabiner can be connected to the Petzl CAPTIV bar to favor positioning of the carabiner along the major axis, to limit the risk of it flipping and to keep it integrated with the device.

Winter Proof Carabiner
During my first winter of production climbing I noticed a lot of sticking carabiner gates, maybe it was the cold wet & dirty conditions? No amount of cleaning or lubing seemed to help. Since using ball locks, I’ve never had one attempt sticking open. I prever oval shaped carabiners for most applications where you want to rotate your carabiner for better orientaion, or keep systems centered such as hitch climber pulleys, termination knots, figure 8 descenders, chicane, etc. As an added bonus, they are easier to open with gloved hands and seem to be less grabby of your gloves.
The ol' go-to
These are my preferred carabiners for my hitch climbing system. The Petzl Ok open very easily with one hand and don't run the risk of opening like a twist lock.
No more accidental opening
I bought these Petzl Ok ball locking carabiners to replace the Petzl Am'D Triact I use with my zigzag. I had witnessed my gate opening when a branch had slid along the barrel rotating it to the open position. A rare but anxiety inducing event. I have not noticed any such event with the ball-lock carabiner, but it does take some getting used to since my muscle memory is based on the triact.
